Marvel Movie Reviews w/ Rambo - The Amazing Spiderman (2012)

 

I do not hide the fact that I have always preferred the Tobey Maguire Spiderman more than the Andrew Garfield Spiderman. Firstly, Andrew Garfield has felt more like a presidential name then an actor. But also, Andrew has just always come off as a messier version to me and as a kid I also hated the idea of changing up something that already worked so well, why do things have to be remade? They can get changed and grow but to completely replace it? Why was that necessary? Why does it continue to be necessary? We have made a third Spiderman! Atleast the latest guy recognizes the original two in the form of the multiverse theory... But that isn't how or why this movie should or is rated the way I have done so. I put this movie as a 2.5 out of 5 stars because while it has it's moments, it just overall does not seem as fast paced or action filled as some of the other super hero movies I have watched thus far in this binge. It has a lot of moments where you ask yourself why we are witnessing things and why the characters handle it the way they do. For instance, he almost immediately tells Gwen that he is Spiderman; why are we revealing our secret identity like that? Not to mention he goes and tells the police chief, not that he had too much of a choice but he could've handled it better in the moment. And then there is the matter of how he handles his Uncle's passing. I do appreciate that he is more proactive in the matter than the Tobey version BUT did he really need to go on such a big spree of catching every single bad guy in the city and then try inserting himself into the investigation with Gwen's dad? There had to have been a better and stealthier way of handling all of that. 

So overall, I give the movie a 2.5 because it is not a poorly made movie, it just has some holes that I think could use some more/thicker plot armor is all.

• Aww, he is so cute and innocent in this intro. I do not remember any of this...
• Wait. In The Amazing Spider-Man, it's his dad who gives him the powers?
• I will admit, Peter does come off cooler in this movie rather than just a total nerd.
• Why does he pretend to be somebody else to get in? Why doesn't he just say he wants a tour or something?
• Why does this Peter have Gwen Stacey instead of MJ? Also, was Gwen smart in the other Spider-Man series? I thought she was a model?
• So much for staying with the group...
• As smart as he came off, talking to the guy and using the genes to heal somebody, shouldn't he know not to touch something he doesn't know anything about? Especially something in a lab that is likely an experiment?
• Why do people need to fuck with others just because they fall asleep in a public place?
• That meatloaf looks dry as a bone, not yummy.
• First of all, why did it hurt to pull the thread out of his neck? Secondly, why was there spider silk thread coming out of his neck? It's not like the spider crawled up inside of him.
• He stole the files? Oh nevermind, they are his dad's files.
• So he both does and doesn't have control over his powers yet, why?
• I swear, if he forgets about Aunt Mae, that's messed up.
• But it's just a computer rendition, which doesn't mean it will actually work for sure.
• How dare he what? Uncle Ben has been there raising you for your parents since you were a child!
• Why would the store owner expect the kid to help him stop a crook? Call the cops dude.
• Wasn't she just telling the crook to stop, and now she's calling Peter crazy?
• Is OSCORP sending him stuff or is he buying it?
• I will say, this version of the Spiderman is much more proactive with finding the guy who hurt Uncle Ben than the Original Spiderman.
• Couldn't even remember to get the eggs, what a shame.
• If they want human trials, why doesn't the scientist just do it on himself, since he seems to be missing a hand?
• Oh, he does use it on himself...
• Now here's a good question: while the serum worked and regrew the body part, will it regrow any body part from then on and be a permanent change in the genome, or is it just temporary?
• Was the OG Gwen Stacey the Police Chief's daughter? I thought she was the newspaper person.
• I just realized who he sounds like, Milo from Atlantis.
• How come in the first Spider-Man, the bad guys were Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Sandman; but this origin story of Spider-Man has the bad guy as a lizard? Makes me think of the bad guy in the DC universe that they use in Suicide Squad...
• I mean atleast Peter tried to let the cops know instead of taking it on himself.
• I love that Gwen got to know right away that he was Spiderman but MJ didn't get to know until like the 3rd movie.
• Also, Gwen's dad looks like the Green Goblin from the original series.
• It's crazy that just breathing in the fumes turned them into the Green Lizard Men army.
• Not Spiderman yelling at Gwen on the phone in a very public environment and almost cursing in the process...
• Not them taking out the guy trying to save them all.
• Also, nice booty shot lol
• They unmasked him, and he started kicking booty again.
• Kind of crazy that in this one he straight up just lets the chief know who he is; isn't his identity supposed to be a secret?
• I wonder why he didn't try killing Gwen.
• Is Peter gonna let Aunt Mae know who he is so she stops worrying ... never mind, she won't stop worrying.
• Gotta love the crane workers saying screw this evac, we gotta help him save the city!
• Why was there so much liquid nitrogen up there? There is no way lizard man got it all up there by himself just now.
• I thought the antidote was going to get used on Lizard Man, not the kaboom.
• Although I guess launching it works better because everyone he turned into lizard men will change back too.
• I sure hope that big pillar didn't hurt anyone on the ground.
• Y'know, how come all these movies can make mutants with science experiments, but we haven't had any IRL?
• Did Peter at least tell Gwen why he can't see her anymore? ... If I would've waited just a second longer, I would know the answer is no.
• Why is he friends with that jerk now??
• Who the heck is this green goblin sounding voice that Lizard Man is talking to in his jail cell???
