Things I am Going to Change When I Take Over The House

Hello friends, some of you will know I moved in with my dad back when he needed help taking care of my Nan, and some things are either falling apart in this house or there are things my dad cannot let go of but complains about a lot, so I am here to have a little vent because some of these things are driving me up the walls, and I just need someone to know.

The living room carpet. This absolutely needs to change; it's covered in stains from spills over the years. It's not that I hate it or that it's falling apart, but seriously, it's unpleasant. I do not like taking guests into the living room because of the state of it. I'm not talking about a small tea or coffee stain. It's got everything on it: gravy, tea, coffee, protein drinks, the odd sauce, milk, and a few meals have been dropped on it. This carpet is over 50 years old; it needs to be changed, and it really seemed like my dad was going to do it, then he accepted a really heavy, really expensive red leather couch. It went in the living room, and there was nothing more said about the carpet. I just think he doesn't want to move the sofa again because neither do I, but it needs to be done.

Closing all the doors at night - I understand locking your doors; I am not on about outside doors, it's the inside ones. The living room door, the dining room door, the kitchen door, and the conservatory door all have to be closed, and I really don't understand it. Yeah, sure, it's better if there is a fire; I get that, but the one fire that happened in the house was because my nan was becoming forgetful and decided to put a hot pan of flaming oil in the sink and turn the tap on. It's a huge part of why I moved in. Recently, the cats have been sleeping in the dining room and the living room at night, so because of that, those doors are being left open, but still it is very annoying for me because I like to go downstairs for a cheeky midnight snack sometimes or need to grab some water; I feel like a spy creeping around the house trying to close the doors as quietly as possible. When I was living with my mum, she would shut the dog and the cats in the kitchen at night, and it feels like that all over again. I don't want to live that life again. I really thought moving in with my dad would be an upgrade cause he is so much more chill, but there are downsides to each living situation. Don't get me wrong, I love both my parents; I really do, but sometimes you just need to vent.

The bedroom furniture in the living room - This furniture is in the living room because my nan had the living room as her bedroom after she kept falling down the stairs all the time. It was safer for her, but now she is gone, and it's been over a year; the dressing table and two lots of drawers are there, and it still looks like a bedroom. He won't get rid of one set of drawers or the dressing table because they may be worth money, or that's what he tells me, but if that's the case, why is the cheap set of drawers still there? It doesn't have anything in it, and the only thing on it is a lamp that he also won't get rid of. I am tired of having the same conversation about it. I am more than happy to help him move it, smash it all up and take it to the dump, or call someone to take it to a charity shop, but nothing happens.

The paperwork in the dining room - There is a lovely glass cabinet in the dining room with some storage at the bottom; it is so full of paperwork that is no longer needed; it's mostly receipts from old trips to the shop and bank statements. I cannot think of any reason to keep that around, but if I ask him about it, he says something along the lines of "We will get to it" and changes the conversation. He complains we need to do something about all this stuff, and it never happens.

My old bedroom - The wall paper is peeling, the single bed in there is extremely uncomfortable and I wanted to get rid of the bed at least and then we could have a room for all the instruments we own, its unlikely we will be having guests over and if we do it will more than likely just be one and its a four bedroom house so we could totally transform the space and use it for something else and keep the other bedroom that is in better condition as a guest bedroom. I was hoping we could turn my old room into a music/ cat room. I see all these videos online where cats are loving the shelves people have put up for them, and I would love for my cats to have something so cool, but it's still a no.

The pond - This one is a little different from the rest as it is outside, but for years the water would stay so clean, but very recently it gets green so fast. I have suggested getting a new filter, using pond dye (fish-safe, obviously), and a very drastic option would be buying a large tank for the living room and putting the fish in there; we could turn the pond into a swimming pool. To turn it into a swimming pool, it would need to be dug out, but one of my favourite things is swimming, and I hate public swimming pools; above-ground pools kind of suck in my opinion. My dad is very against this, but if it was a swimming pool, all you would need is some chlorine; it could be used all year round because of a water heater. I have tried a fish-safe chemical before to keep the water clean for the fish, but all it did was turn the water brown and then green quicker, and I followed all the instructions, but it's not the best use of time having to clean the pond about four times a year.

Thank you so much for reading my rant. I'm sorry it's not very interesting, but that's life sometimes. These are just the four main issues, and I am sure I will think of more, so if you did enjoy it, there may be a part two in the future. I would like to reiterate I love my parents dearly and just wanted to vent a little. For those of you who are waiting on the WondLa season 3 review, I am sorry for the delay, and I am working on it episode by episode. I am hoping to complete the season this month, but I have been a little slower at watching episodes. That's all I have for you this time. I hope you have a great rest of your day, and I will be back with another post on Friday. :)
