“You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.” — Wayne Gretzky.
That quote was originally in reference to Hockey but it has grown to encompass so much more than just that sport. People use this quote for sports still, sure, but they also use it for relationships, they use it for career changes, they use it just about everything.
And it is not inaccurate.
You can not go about your life without trying. If you don't, then you will never make it further than you have already come.
“Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” ― Babe Ruth
Yet another sports-related quote that can be applied to more than just that. In this case, they were originally discussing baseball, but again it can be applied to all those things I listed previously.
If you are too scared of failure, and you let that fear control what chances you take in life, you will not be able to see any of the things you can accomplish.
You can not learn nor grow without failure.
You need to be able to take that chance, fall a couple times, and get yourself back up again to see yourself succeed.
You could always watch opportunities come and go right in front of your face but then how would you be able to see that light that was shining on the other side as it passed?
On a similar note, I know it is hard to miss out on things even if you have no choice or no control over what is happening. Just be ready to take advantage the next time you get a chance and know that it is not always your fault that you missed your shot or that you struck out.
