Chemistry Enthusiast

Warning: This is written by a chemistry nerd who is majoring in the subject, has their own chem lab in their house, has posters of periodic tables and scientific methods and equipment plastered all over their room, takes part in the chem society and chem fraternity inner workings….. This topic is not taken lightly to this individual!!!
Chemistry is a very broad topic. It is a physical science that ultimately makes up all of existence. Chemistry explains how hormones and vitamins course through your body building immunity and the aging process. It can explain psychological phenomena. The cooking of food. The blooming of flowers. The attraction between two individuals or between inanimate objects. Chemistry is forever expanding and ever mind blowing.
Much of the human population may find that exploring topics taught in schools is deafening and ruins one’s individualism but sometimes this desire to seek knowledge is what makes you special. In America, it is required that high school students take a year of biology and a year of chemistry. These courses barely touch the surface of what you can accomplish through the subjects. Accepting the invitation to take the course as an AP class furthers these scrapings and becomes a bit more in depth with the possibilities but until you are out in the world doing hands on work with the knowledge gained, you have no clue how enticing it all can be.
Acknowledging experiments and the scientific process can be scary, trying to apply it to your own research can be even more so. Once you jump into it however, you become entranced by the reaction occurring before your eyes. The solids dissolve and fizz off into the solution in colorful swirls as electrons transfer from one substance to another. Gases form, bubbles dancing up the chamber like baby jellyfish; the accumulation rapidly increases and you worry the tube will not be large enough to hold it. In awe, it is hard to believe that such a small amount of a substance can create such a response but in reality, it should be even larger. It begins to become apparent how precious and very touchy this ‘stuff’ can be. Realization hits on how people become overwhelmed with power and use it to destroy the lives of many.

               Knowledge is truly power.
